Backyard Destination Wedding in Brenham, Texas | Kathryn + Troy
There's nothing quite like a destination wedding, and this one in Brenham, Texas was an absolute joy to document from start to finish!
Kathryn and Troy’s destination wedding in Brenham, Texas was easily one of the most fun weddings I documented in all of 2023. Their wedding day had such a strong feeling of community to it as everyone there was near and dear to these two. Even I, having only met them the year prior, felt like I’d known these two for forever, which just attests to how welcoming and loving these two are.
Believe it or not Kathryn and Troy actually met way back in preschool, but lost touch until they eventually reconnected 23 years down the road at Deep Eddy. The two have been inseparable ever since which eventually led to Troy proposing to Kathryn in her hometown of Brenham. After revisiting Deep Eddy for their engagement session, it seemed fitting to have their wedding day in Brenham on Kathryn’s parent’s property.
First Look and Portraits
While this was a destination wedding for me, for Kathryn it was a special experience having her wedding day in her childhood home in Brenham, Texas. Her and Troy both got ready on the property which made things incredibly smooth when it came time for their first look. I have to say that the grounds of Kathryn’s parent’s property are absolutely gorgeous! We seriously couldn’t have asked for a more perfect backdrop for their first look and the portraits that followed.
Being the type of people that Kathryn and Troy are meant that they were game for any and all photo ideas that I sent their way. These turned out to be some of my favorites from the day and I’m SO happy that Kathryn and Troy put their trust in me as their photographer. We finished up with some wedding party and family portraits before it was time for their ceremony to begin.
Their Backyard Ceremony
As guests began to make their way onto the property for the ceremony you could practically feel the anticipation in the air. When I say that Kathryn and Troy’s circle has a true feel of community I mean it. Everyone here was so excited to see these two come together and support this next chapter of their love story. The ceremony took place outdoors looking out over that same gorgeous landscape I had mentioned earlier. Once the ceremony had concluded it was time for cocktail hour as well as a few more couples portraits while the sun set.
Having a first look means Kathryn and Troy could actually be present during a portion of their cocktail hour which was so fun! This is one of the benefits of having a first look on your wedding day, something I talk in depth about in this article. Up next was the finale of their destination wedding in Brenham, Texas, the reception!
Dance the Night Away
Kathryn and Troy’s reception began with both of Kathryn’s brothers giving a toast/prayer to kick things off. After dinner it was time for Kathryn’s father to give a speech that was SO sweet, he had the entire guest list smiling and laughing along with him through the whole thing. The reception took place underneath a large tent in the backyard of the property, and with the string lights illuminating the space the vibe was simply immaculate. For the evening’s entertainment Kathryn and Troy had hired a live band that they heard while in Austin and had asked on a whim if they happened to do weddings. Clearly they do, and they absolutely crushed Kathryn and Troy’s! The two shared a beautiful first dance together, followed by a dance with their parents before opening the floor up to everyone for a night of celebration.
By now you can probably see why Kathryn and Troy’s destination wedding in Brenham, Texas was one of my absolute favorites of 2023. Their day was no exaggeration, a party from start to finish, and I’m so glad I can relive and share their day with you all here.
